Enviromental Design of Infrastructure Works MSc
This Course offers specialization on the Protection of Environment Operations for those working in the field of Control and Management in Infrastructure Design and Implementation.
Learning Outcomes: When students graduate from this programme, they will be able to,
1. Understand the basic terms referring to the process of the main components of the Physical Environment and of the way human activities can affect these components. Emphasis is given to the earth, the atmosphere, the waters on earth and the plants. Evaluate issues that refer to Energy, especially to the part of Renewable Energy Sources. Understand issues referring to demographic and urban phenomena.
2. Evaluate a city as ecosystem that uses sources and produces outputs, and describe processes about its sustainable development. Describe policies of the European Union about cities? environment. Identify the disturbing land uses and environmental impacts of the public netwotks. Describe environmental data that must be taken into account in the environmental design of utility networks. Evaluate environmental, economical and social impacts of projects and activities in the natural and human environment. Suggest solutions and measures to protect the environment, understand the framework of an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) study and evaluate an EIA relatively to its subject and the existing institutional framework.
3. Possess the methods of environmental design of transport, hydraulic and energy projects, the methods for environmentally friendly managing and processing of municipal solid waste, as well as the environmental methods to design specific projects. Be familiar with safety issues of works and installations.
4. Know the processes occurring in a coastal zone and develop relevant management procedures. Understand the physical, chemical and biological processes occurring in a biological treatment, as well as the results in the case of changing flows, input concentrations or operation conditions. Be familiar with the policies of transport infrastructure, soft transport modes and environmental design of transportation systems.

Applicants to the Environmental Design of Infrastructure Works must possess an undergraduate degree in a related field from a Greek Public University, a Technical Educational Institute or an equivalent degree.
The equivalency to a Greek qualification is recognized by the Hellenic NARIC (Hellenic National Academic Recognition and Information Center / DOATAP), which verifies the validity and equivalence of the acquired degree with those awarded by Greek institutions of higher education. Applicants must possess documents issued by DOATAP. A list of recognised degrees is available from DOATAP, and a prerequisite course list for applicants to HOU courses may be given by the HOU's registration department.
University graduates must have been members of the Technical Chamber of Greece for at least four years and Technical Educational Institute graduates must have received their degree six years prior to draw date.
All candidates must provide evidence of their ability in a foreign language, preferably English.
Experience in infrastructure works (construction project development and supervision) is considered necessary for the successful completion of the course.
