The purpose of the Master of Tourism Business Administration is to provide the specialized knowledge required for a management career in the tourism industry. The Master of Tourism Business Administration programme organises and delivers the educational content in such a way as to enable students to develop both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required in management positions in the tourism industry. At the same time, it promotes the development of the analytical skills and personal characteristics required to address and solve problems in tourism businesses and organizations. The programme places particular emphasis on the interdisciplinary nature of the elements of tourism management that explain its nature and development at the microeconomic and macroeconomic levels. This approach enhances in-depth understanding and the ability to synthesise the political, economic, social and technological factors relevant to modern tourism management.

The programme aims to provide students with the specialised knowledge required for a management career in the tourism industry. Within this overall objective, the programme intends to enable students to:

  • Cultivate the ability to synthesize the interdisciplinary elements of tourism management that explain its nature and development.
  • Demonstrate the theoretical knowledge and master the practical skills required in management positions in the tourism industry.
  • Develop academic analytical skills and personal attributes required to solve problems in tourism management.
  • Evaluate critically the different elements that make up the tourism industry.
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the political, economic, social and technological factors related to the management of tourism businesses and organisations.

The language of instruction of the MSc is Greek.

The minimum duration of study is 2 academic years.

The Post-graduate programme accepts graduates or higher institution diplomas of related disciplines. The programme is offered in Greek. English competency is necessary for attending the programme*

The knowledge of a foreign language and good computer-Internet skills would be useful for the successful participation in the programme.

Note:

Holders of a degree or diploma of higher education means graduates of Greek Universities or Polytechnics or Higher School of Fine Arts or Higher School of Pedagogical and Technological Education or Higher Technological Educational Institutions (ATEI) or those who hold academically equivalent first cycle degrees from recognized foreign educational institutions with the degrees awarded by the Greek Higher Educational Institutions, in accordance with the provisions of article 304 of Law No. 4957/2022 (Government Gazette 141/21.07.2022, vol.)

Marking:

For the evaluation of the application to the Postgraduate Studies Programme, it will be examined whether the candidate’s institution of study is or may be included in the National Register of Recognised Higher Education Institutions of Foreign Countries and whether the candidate’s degree is or may be included in the National Register of Types of Degrees of Recognised Institutions of Foreign Countries.

The Hellenic Open University, if the degree is included in the list of article 307 of Law No. 4957/2022, must request a “Certificate of Place of Study”, which is issued and sent by the foreign university. If the place of study or part of the studies is confirmed as the Greek territory, the degree is not recognized, unless the part of the studies that took place in the Greek territory is in a public higher education institution or in a recognized foreign educational institution within the meaning of paragraph b) of article 299 of Law No. 4957/2022.

The MSc “Tourism Business Administration” is structured in two (2) academic years, which include four (4) thematic units and a thesis. In order to obtain the M.Sc. degree, the successful completion of four thematic units is mandatory, as well as the successful completion of the Postgraduate Diploma Thesis. The minimum duration for the completion of the programme is two (2) years. The total number of credits (ECTS) required for the award of the Postgraduate Diploma of Specialisation (M.Sc.) is 120 ECTS.

Guidelines on Module selection

In the first year of study you can choose up to three (3) Modules: DTE50, DTE51 and DTE60 or DTE61. If you do not have the required time, you must select in order the DTE50 or the DTE50 and DTE51 Modules.

In the second year, you may choose the Postgraduate Dissertation in parallel with the last Module (DTE60 or DTE61), provided that you have successfully completed the three Modules.

The presentation and examination of the Postgraduate Dissertation will only take place after the successful completion of all four (4) Modules of the Programme.

In the process of declaring a Module, the previous year’s Module must be exhausted first and then the next year’s units must be declared.

In order to complete the programme in two academic years, you must successfully complete three Modules in the first year of study and one Module in the second year in parallel with the Postgraduate Dissertation, according to the above guidelines.
