The Hellenic Open University (HOU) is a public Higher Education Institution (HEI) and operates as a legal entity under public law (N.P.D.D.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The HOU was established pursuant to Article 27, paragraph 1, of Law 2083\/1992 (Government Gazette A\u0384 159). Its distinctive identity and pioneering model of operation were shaped by Law 2552\/1997 (Government Gazette A\u0384 266), which constituted a landmark law for the organization and operation of the HOU and established the distinctive framework for the open and distance higher education provided by the Institution. The provisions of Law 2552\/1997 that remain in force form part of the specific legislative framework governing the HOU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The HOU is an independent and self-governed Higher Education Institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The HOU provides higher education, within the meaning of Article 3 of Law 4957\/2022 (Government Gazette A\u0384 141), and is governed by the provisions of Law 4957\/2022 on matters not specifically regulated by Law 5094\/2024 (Government Gazette A\u0384 39).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The mission of the HOU is:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n a)<\/strong> to provide open and distance undergraduate and postgraduate education and continuing education;<\/p>\n\n\n\n b)<\/strong> to provide short study programmes through the development and use of appropriate educational material and modern teaching methods;<\/p>\n\n\n\n c)<\/strong> to provide pedagogical education, training, continuing education and specialization; and<\/p>\n\n\n\n d)<\/strong> to conduct scientific research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The purposes of the Hellenic Open University (HOU) include the promotion of scientific research and the development of technology and methodology in the field of distance learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In order to fulfill its mission, the HOU organizes first-, second- and third-cycle study programmes, as well as continuing education and programmes leading to pedagogical competence. The study programmes are developed and delivered through distance education methods. Study programmes may also be offered in collaboration with other Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and Research Centers in Greece or abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In fulfilling its educational mission, the HOU provides high-quality and comprehensive education, aligned with contemporary developments in science, technology and international academic practice. Particular emphasis is placed on distance education tools, which are continuously modernized as part of the HOU\u2019s commitment to providing high-quality and comprehensive education in alignment with contemporary developments in science, technology and international academic practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
