The SDG Research Workshop, organized by the Hellenic Open University within the framework of the OpenEU European University Alliance, was successfully completed on 28 November 2025 and was held online, bringing together representatives from academia, public administration, the business sector and civil society.
The workshop was implemented as part of Work Package 4 (Joint Research and Innovation in Digital Education) of the OpenEU project and aimed at identifying and prioritizing challenges related to selected United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as well as at the co-creation of action proposals through the involvement of multiple stakeholders.
During the workshop, 85 participants worked in thematic groups focusing on SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), following a structured and participatory methodology.
The discussions focused on:
- mapping key and specific challenges related to each SDG,
- exploring the role of universities in sustainable development (education, research, society and governance),
- and prioritizing proposed actions based on their impact and feasibility.
The workshop was evaluated very positively by the participants, who highlighted the high quality of the discussions, the value of the participatory methodology, and the importance of continuing similar initiatives within the OpenEU framework.
The outcomes of the workshop will be utilized in the next phases of the project, contributing to the development of educational prototypes and research initiatives in higher education.
