The School of Humanities (SHU) was established in accordance with the founding Law of the HOU (2552/97). The School currently has 16 Members of TRS (Teaching and Research Staff), (6 Professors, 7 Associate Professors, 3 Assistant Professors).
Conferences and Networking
The School of Humanities regularly organizes every two years the International Conference on Open and Distance Education with international participations and about 5000 Participants. Three volumes of Proceedings have already been published. The School organizes every year a special training programme for the SHU members of the HOU in Open and Distance Education. The collaborating institutions, the Hellenic Adult Education Association and the Greek Network of Open and Distance Education, publish the scientific journals “Adult Education” and “Open Education” with a peer-reviewed system.

SHU Laboratories
Research Programmes
1) EQUAL Programme of the Hellenic Open University with the Development Partnership “TECHNOMATHIA” entitled “Network for the Promotion of lifelong Training and Distance Certification of Skills in SMEs».
2) Project “Open Literature / The OpenLit Project” on the Development of Modern Methodology for the University Teaching of Literature in the context of Distance Education funded by the ΕΠΕΑΕΚ II (Operational Programme for Education and Initial Vocational Training Β’) of the Hellenic Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs.
3) The “Training of Trainers” programme for the training of all the trainers in the country (12.000) of continuing vocational training, coordinated by the SHU of HOU and funded by the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and the European Social Fund.
4) 43 PhD theses are prepared within the framework of the SHU.
