The School of Social Sciences is one of the four Schools of the Hellenic Open University established by the founding Law 2552/97 and constituted in 2005.
SUBJECT
The School of Social Sciences has as its main objective the provision of knowledge and skills in the social sciences, with particular emphasis on management and economics.
ADMINISTRATION & OPERATION
The Deanery is the supreme body of the School. The School currently consists of 14 Members of Teaching and Research Staff (TRS) (5 Professors, 5 Associate Professors, 3 Assistant Professors and 1 Lecturer).
FACILITIES
The School (TRS Members’ Offices and Secretariat) is located in Building E, 1st floor – North Ward, of the HOU Campus, on 18 Aristotelous Street, PO 263.35, in Patras.
ELECTION OF DEAN & DEPUTY DEAN
The Deanery is the supreme body of the School. It consists of the Dean, who is elected for three years, and all the faculty members of the School. The Deanery ensures the smooth operation of the Programmes of Studies and of the subjects that are part of it. The School of Social Sciences gained autonomy in 2005, after the completion (appointment) of the minimum number of faculty members (6) provided for by the founding law of the HOU (Law 2552/97) and was constituted as a body in September 2006. After the School became autonomous and for the remainder of the academic year 2004-05, the President of the Governing Committee (GC) of the HOU acted as Dean of the School. During the academic year 2005-06, the election of a Dean could not be held and therefore the President of the GC continued to act as Dean. In the academic year 2006-07 the School had for the first time an elected governing body, namely a Dean and a Deputy Dean.
