I am a student

1. I have already enrolled in my new Thematic Units for the next academic year/ semester. Has my application been registered?

Τhe new Thematic Unit has been registered in the IT system of the University, as long as the application receives protocol number with the date and time of submission. You can see the protocol number in the following link dev.eap.gr in the “Enrolment in New Thematic Units” tab.

2. I have already enrolled in my new Thematic Units for the next academic year/ semester. Where can I see the new Thematic Units?

The Thematic Units that you have selected for the next academic year/ semester of studies in the educational platforms https://open.eap.gr  for the Annual Study Programs and https://coursesreg.eap.gr/ for the Semi-annual Study Programs. The new Thematic Units will be confirmed provided the student has properly followed the instructions that has been sent (payment of tuition, enrolment in Thematic Units).

3. When will I receive the printed teaching material?

The shipment of the teaching material will be completed before the start of the academic year/ semester. Each Thematic Unit is being sent separately.

4. I have already enrolled in my new Thematic Units for the next academic year/ semester. Where can I see the payment of my tuition fees?

The payment of your fees will be visible after 2-3 days in the website  dev.eap.gr à “Enrolment in New Thematic Units” à Application Form à Payments History (under the “Payment Code”)

5. When is the registration period (enrollment in new Thematic Units for the current students)?

Annual Study Programs: The re-registration period of the Thematic Units (T.U)/ Thematic Laboratory Units (T.L.U)/ Practical Training Module (P.T.M)/ Postgraduate Diploma Thesis (P.D.T) starts in the beginning of final exams and ends in the beginning of August.

Annual Study Programs: The payment of the tuition fees of T.U/ T.L.U / P.T.M starts in the beginning of final exams and ends in the beginning of August.

Semi-Annual Study Programs: The re-registration period of T.U/ T.L.U / P.T.M/ P.D.T for the winter semester starts in the beginning of final exams and ends in the beginning of August. For the spring semester students can re-register from the beginning of final exams until the beginning of February.

6. If I lose my Academic Identity Card, can the University send me a new one? If so, what process should I follow?

If a student loses the Academic Identity Card, an email should be sent to the Student Program Secretariat of the Registry Department stating that “I have lost my Academic Identity Card and I wish its reissue.”. Next, more instructions will be sent to your academic email.

7. Does the Academic Identity Card offer free access to museums, theaters and cultural centers in Greece? Also, are discounts in the tickets of all means of public transportation (city buses, coaches, trains, ferries) are being given?

Τhe Academic Identity Card offers free access or ticket discounts in libraries, cinemas, theaters, cultural centers or museums. The students of the HOU do not fall into the beneficial provisions of the article 29 of the 1268/1982 Law (Government Gazette A’ 87) concerning healthcare, free boarding, transportation etc. The Academic Identity Card is valid only in Greece.

8. With whom can I communicate in case any questions or problems occur?

9. Am I entitled to educational leave (only applicable in Greece)?

According to the 4452/2017 Law (Government Gazette 17/Α’/15-02-2017) “The undergraduate and postgraduate students of the Hellenic open University are entitled to the provisions of the articles 58-60 of the 3528/2007 (A’26) Law concerning the special leaves. The applicants should submit a Confirmation of Studies of the HOU to their workplace in which it will be stated that the applicant is currently an undergraduate or postgraduate student of the HOU.”.

10. How are the Group Counseling Meetings (G.C.M) carried out?

The Group Counseling Meetings are online meetings. The dates and time that will be held are announced in the beginning of the academic year/ semester.

11. I was student in the HOU in the past and I have deregistered. How can I register again in order to complete my studies?

You can enroll once again as a new student and apply for recognition of the Thematic Units that they have already successfully completed during previous studies in the same S.P. of the H.O.U.

12. I have lost my username / password (credentials) of my email of the educational platform. What can I do?

You can reset your password via the link you can find in the sign-in page in your academic email in the educational platforms. In case it is not possible to reset them, please email to helpdesk@eap.gr

13. How can I issue my Academic Identity Card?

You can apply for the issue of your Academic Identity Card in the following link https://academicid.minedu.gov.gr/foitites-diadikasia_ipovolis_aitisis.html . You can you can sign-in with the login credentials of the Registry Services.

14. How can I have a proof of payment for the tuition fees that I have deposited?

A proof of payment can be issued on which only the student’s personal info will be written. The proof of payment can be downloaded via the platform https://apps.eap.gr/grammatia/web/ , where you can sign-in with the login credentials of the Registry Services.

15. How can I issue an invoice for my studies expense?

We would like to inform you that the students’ financial contribution to the expenses of distance learning education constitutes responsibility of the student according to 2552/1997 Law and it is a personal commitment. The Institution is a Legal Entity of Public Law and it is not fall into the private tertiary education, as it is forbidden by the Article 16 of the Constitution. The Greek State contributes financially as well.

As the University is not engaged in a commercial educational activity, as the private sector does, it cannot issue an invoice for the student’s financial contribution. A third party related to the student does not affect the Institution.

16. What is the University’s grading system?

The University grading system is between the scale of 0-10 and the pass is 5 to 10.

The University grading system can be well described as:

Excellent (8.50 to 10)
Very Good (6.50 to 8.50)
Good (5 to 6.49)

17. Is the indication -1 taken into account in my grading?

The indication -1 is a feature of the system. It is not considered a grade and it does not affect the grading procedure.

18. I am already student in another Bachelor Program / Master Program. Can I attend at the same time another Bachelor Study Program?

You can study in more than one Bachelor Program at the same time, only if the Bachelor Study Programs are not held in Greece.

19. If I don’t complete the Thematic Unit that I have selected for the academic year / semester, do I have to pay again the fees for this Thematic Unit?

Study Programs with semester-long Thematic Unit.

  • Students enrolled in S.P. with semester-long T.U. in winter semester, who do not achieve a passing grade or fail to attend the examinations of the January-February exam period, may re-sit their examination in the subsequent examination period (May-June) without the obligation to participate in the educational activities of the T.U.
  • if you are enrolled in a Thematic Unit during spring semester and do not achieve a passing grade in the second examination period (May-June), you may re-sit the examination in the repeat exam period (June-July). In case the student does not achieve a passing grade or fail to attend the repeat examination period may re-sit their examination in the 1st examination period (January-February) of the subsequent academic term, provided they submit a re-enrollment request, without the obligation to participate in the educational activities of the T.U.
  • The student will enroll in the Thematic Unit with full educational and financial obligations in case a non-passing grade or failure to attend will occur again.

If students have not fulfilled all their educational obligations (educational activities), they should re-enroll in the Thematic Unit with full educational and financial obligations.

Study Programs with year-long Thematic Unit:

  • If you do not achieve a passing grade or fail to attend the examination in final exam period (June), you may participate in the repeat examinations (July). In the event of a new failure, the Thematic Unit is being transferred (only without the obligation to participate in the educational activities of the T.U.

If students have not fulfilled all their educational obligations (educational activities), they should re-enroll in the Thematic Unit with full educational and financial obligations.

20. How can I change my personal data?

Students can make all the changes in their personal data (except ID) during the re-enrolments in the website dev.eap.gr and more specifically in the of the New T.U. enrolment application form.

If students want to change their Identity card or if they want any other change out of the above-mentioned period, they should contact via email the Student Program Secretariat of the Registry Department.

21. How can I calculate the average grade in a Thematic Unit? When am I entitled to participate in the exams in the Annual Study Programs?

Each educational activity is graded on a scale of one to ten, with ten (10) being full marks. Students may not participate in the final examination of a T.U. if they have not first (α) earned at least 50% of full marks from the total of graded activities and (b) submit more than half of the number of training activities. Students who are not entitled to participate in the exams of a Thematic Unit, may repeat the T.U in the following academic year/semester with full educational and financial obligations. The graded activities may not account for more than 40% of the total T.U. grade – unless otherwise stated in the founding law of the S.P. – and are only included in the final grade after successful participation (≥5) in the final exams.
Students who do not achieve a passing grade in the repeat examination period may re-sit their examination in the final and repeat examination periods of the subsequent academic term.
