It consists in providing specialised knowledge on the issues of waste management (liquid, solid, gaseous), waste treatment technologies, decontamination methodologies, understanding the complex structure and functioning of the environment, which is the final recipient of waste, acquiring knowledge of the relevant legislation on waste management and the protection of health and the environment, selecting technologies for solving problems arising from point sources of pollution, planning and managing waste, selecting technologies for solving problems arising from point sources of pollution, understanding the complexity of the environment, which is the final recipient of waste, understanding the complex structure and functioning of the environment, which is the final recipient of waste, acquiring knowledge of the relevant legislation on waste management and the protection of health and the environment, selecting technologies for solving problems arising from point sources of pollution, planning and managing waste and the environment, understanding the complexity of the environment, which is the final recipient of waste. Knowledge is also provided on the assessment of environmental conditions of the natural environment, the effects of pollutants on human health, methodologies for assessing environmental conditions, and methodologies for environmental remediation and decontamination. Through the preparation of the thesis, students will be able to plan and give answers to practical issues arising from waste management in the environment (terrestrial and aquatic) and in human societies in general.

The Post-graduate programme accepts graduates or higher institution diplomas of related disciplines. The programme is offered in Greek.
The knowledge of a foreign language and good computer-Internet skills would be useful for the successful participation in the programme.
Note:
Holders of a degree or diploma of higher education means graduates of Greek Universities or Polytechnics or Higher School of Fine Arts or Higher School of Pedagogical and Technological Education or Higher Technological Educational Institutions (ATEI) or those who hold academically equivalent first cycle degrees from recognized foreign educational institutions with the degrees awarded by the Greek Higher Educational Institutions, in accordance with the provisions of article 304 of Law No. 4957/2022 (Government Gazette 141/21.07.2022, vol.)
Clarification regarding foreign academic institutions
When evaluating an application to a Postgraduate Study Programme, the University will examine whether the candidate’s institution of study is included, or is eligible to be included, in the National Registry of Recognized Foreign Higher Education Institutions, and whether the candidate’s degree is included, or is eligible to be included, in the National Registry of Degree Types Awarded by Recognized Foreign Institutions. If the degree is listed under Article 307 of Law 4957/2022, the Hellenic Open University is required to request a “Certificate of Place of Study”, which must be issued and sent directly by the foreign university. If the certificate confirms that the place of study, or any part of the studies, took place within Greek territory, the degree cannot be recognized—unless the portion of studies completed in Greece was carried out at a public Higher Education Institution or at a recognized foreign educational institution, as defined in point (b) of Article 299 of Law 4957/2022.

Module Selection Instructions
During the first year of study, if the student has the required time, he/she can choose three units, the compulsory unit DIA50 (Natural Environment and Pollution) and two of the other three units DIA51, DIA60 and DIA61. The student may choose the Postgraduate Diploma Thesis in parallel with the last unit, provided he/she has successfully completed all three units.
It is clarified that, in order to complete the programme in two academic years, the student must successfully complete during the first year of study three units (according to the above guidelines) and during the second year the last unit in parallel with the postgraduate thesis.
In the process of declaring units, the previous year’s units must be exhausted first and then the next year’s unit declaration must begin.
The presentation of the Master’s Thesis will take place after the successful completion of all the modules of the Programme of Studies.
For the award of the Master’s degree, the successful completion of all four units is mandatory, as well as the successful completion of the Master’s Thesis.

Each Thematic Unit is priced at 650€ and the total cost of the Postgraduate Programme is 3.250€.
