The present PSP aims to approach the history and evolution of the various forms of Orthodox Christian theological thought and action, viewed in the context of multi-cultural and multi-religious societies, by examining what we know about how individuals and societies used these forms through the ages.

Upon successful completion of the PSP, students will have obtained the necessary knowledge and skills to understand and discuss:

The historical beginnings of Christianity and its relations with the wider socio-political and philosophical contexts.
The evolution of the dominant religious viewpoints (dogmas) and their differences both inside and outside of a given religious community.
The Orthodox Christian tradition and the role it has played in both the evolution of the various national Churches and the development of inter-Orthodox relations.
The influence of Christianity on the function of social institutions and cultural traditions.
The historical relations between Christianity and other religions, such as Judaism and Islam, in addition the relations between the Orthodox churches, the Roman Catholic church, and the Protestant religious communities and churches.
The dialectical interaction between Orthodox theology and modern scholarly, philosophical, and social trends.

The Post-graduate programme accepts graduates of higher institution diplomas. The programme is offered in Greek.

The knowledge of a foreign language and good computer-Internet skills would be useful for the successful participation in the programme.

Note:

Holders of a degree or diploma of higher education means graduates of Greek Universities or Polytechnics or Higher School of Fine Arts or Higher School of Pedagogical and Technological Education or Higher Technological Educational Institutions (ATEI) or those who hold academically equivalent first cycle degrees from recognized foreign educational institutions with the degrees awarded by the Greek Higher Educational Institutions, in accordance with the provisions of article 304 of Law No. 4957/2022 (Government Gazette 141/21.07.2022, vol.)

Clarification regarding foreign academic institutions

When evaluating an application to a Postgraduate Study Programme, the University will examine whether the candidate’s institution of study is included, or is eligible to be included, in the National Registry of Recognized Foreign Higher Education Institutions, and whether the candidate’s degree is included, or is eligible to be included, in the National Registry of Degree Types Awarded by Recognized Foreign Institutions. If the degree is listed under Article 307 of Law 4957/2022, the Hellenic Open University is required to request a “Certificate of Place of Study”, which must be issued and sent directly by the foreign university. If the certificate confirms that the place of study, or any part of the studies, took place within Greek territory, the degree cannot be recognized—unless the portion of studies completed in Greece was carried out at a public Higher Education Institution or at a recognized foreign educational institution, as defined in point (b) of Article 299 of Law 4957/2022.

The Postgraduate Studies Program “Orthodox Christian Theology and Religious Pluralism” is organized in two (2) academic terms of study, which include four (4) thematic units and the preparation of a diploma thesis. The minimum required duration to complete the program is two (2) years. The total number of academic credits (ECTS) required to earn the Postgraduate Specialization Diploma (PSD) are 120.

Instructions for the declaration of a unit.
Students in the first (1^st) term who select only one (1) T.U. must select ORTH50, while those who select two (2) may select ORTH50 and ORTH60. Students who select three (3) T.U. may also select ORTH51 (either having first completed ORTH50 and ORTH60, or attending them concurrently with ORTH51).

Students in the second (2^nd) term may only select ORTH61 if they have first successfully completed at least one (1) of the T.U. from the first term.

Students may elect to prepare their PDT either concurrently with their participation in ORTH61 or after completing it.

Students may present their PDT after successfully completing all four (4) T.U.

When selecting T.U.s, students must first pass all the available T.U.s that belong to the previous term and then select T.U.s belonging to the next term.

To complete the PSP in two academic terms, students must successfully complete at least three T.U. in the first term, and one T.U. in the second term concurrently with the preparation of their PDT, in accordance with the aforementioned instructions
