The Programme
This MA Programme focuses on Creative Writing as an object of theory and research as well as a cultural practice; it focuses on Creative Writing’s manifold applications in literature and various other arts, in communication, in digital culture and in educational practices.
Aim
The principal aim of the Creative Writing Programme is to train researchers, instructors at different educational levels and professionals in the fields of culture, communication and media in Creative Writing and its various manifestations, complexities and applications in contemporary cultural and social reality. The Programme offers its students theoretical grounding and practical skills in the composition, critical reception and editing of texts that fall within a wide range of genres and forms of the written word (literary texts, essays, plays, journalistic articles, film scripts, etc.), as well as in the relevant uses of modern digital applications and educational methods and techniques. The Programme takes into account recent research in the Humanities and links creative practice in various genres and discourses with a strong theoretical element. It offers a systematic acquaintance with important literary works and artistic manifestations and movements as well as with theoretical and critical thinking, educational practices and digital skills. The Programme encompasses innovative treatments of basic and applied research and explores Creative Writing as a theoretical and practical field, while also applying the methodology and principles of Open and Distance Learning. Its theoretical and practical components can be used in education, as well as in various fields of cultural interest (publishing, cultural management, creative industries, journalism and communication, tourism, etc.). At the same time, the Programme’s students acquire solid foundations for further research and specialization in a wide range of academic fields, as well as toward the effective cultivation of their personal writing and artistic aspirations in various areas of the written word (including poetry, prose, essays, drama, film script, literary translation, literary criticism, digital literature, etc.).
