The DELTA transnational project is funded under the Erasmus + / KA2 EU (Strategic Partnerships for Higher Education) program. The DAISSy research group of Hellenic Open University is coordinating the project. DELTA integrates the excavation site as an educational tool in Archaeology teaching in the amphitheater, using digital media. The implemented with the collaboration of 4 Higher Education Institutes from 3 European countries: the DAISSy research team of Hellenic Open University – Greece, the Department of History and Archeology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens – Greece, the Department of European and Mediterranean Cultures: Architecture, Environment and Cultural Management (DiCEM) of the University of Basilicata – Italy and the Department of Archeology and Music of the University of Masaryk – Czech Republic.

The Intensive Study Program (ISP) was organized within the DELTA project from 11th to 15th October 2021 in Greece. . It was a wonderful experience for 14 students of Archaeology and their trainers from Greece, Italy and Czech Republic to participate in a 5 days training and learning at the Marathon excavation in Greece. The organization of the ISP followed the four modules of the DELTA blended course. In particular, after the first day which was devoted to the orientation and introduction to the archaeological site, the program and the excavation methodology, the following 4 days were devoted to the subjects of the four modules of the DELTA online course developed by the Universities – partners of DELTA:
• Digital Tools for Archaeological Practice/ Excavation;
• Documentation in situ and after excavation;
• Digital Preservation of cultural heritage monuments and artifacts;
• Open-Air Museums and Experimental Archaeology.
The learning and training programme included lectures, presentations, applications of digital tools and software in archaeological excavations, usage of drones and thermal cameras, use of Total Station and RTK GNSS, 3D modeling, photogrammetry, storytelling techniques and group activities as well as study visits to museums, laboratory of conservation & archaeological sites!
