DESCRIPTION

OpenEU is a European University alliance aiming to create the first pan-European open university. Its goal is to strengthen the digital, green, and social dimension of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), by offering equal access to high-quality higher education and lifelong learning to all, any time, from anywhere, regardless of personal or professional circumstances, age, gender, nationality, place of residence or time constraints.

Through technology-driven and flexible formats of learning, mobility, and knowledge exchange, OpenEU aspires to offer accessible and sustainable international experiences for all students and to make a meaningful contribution to the digital transformation of educational institutions.

Eight of Europe’s leading open and distance universities are joining forces, sharing common visions and bringing together their extensive expertise in digital education, in partnership with two on-capmus higher education institutions and a set of academic, industrial, local and regional partners. Together, they are committed to addressing three main challenges of the European Higher Education Area: digital transformation, inclusiveness and equity, as well as lifelong learning.

STRATEGIC GOALS OF OpenEU
  1. Build the foundations of a solid and sustainable European open university.
  2. Promote innovation in curricula and enhance micro-credentials for skills development.
  3. Expand lifelong learning for employability across Europe.
  4. Widen participation of traditionally underrepresented and disadvantaged groups in higher education.
  5. Guarantee the quality of digital learning through research and innovation.
  6. Drive the digital transformation of higher education in Europe.
  7. Broaden internationalization by implementing flexible mobility options for all.
  8. Enhance challenge-based knowledge generation, transfer and exchange, focusing on digital transformation, climate emergency, and democracy.
  9. Increase universities’ societal impact in education, through partnerships with communities and the labor market.
  10. Foster a shared culture in OpenEU that is based on the principles of quality, equity and environmental sustainability.
