Dimitris Kalles is a Professor at the Hellenic Open University on the subject of “Artificial Intelligence – Applications”. He is the Director of the undergraduate study program “Computer Science”. He holds a Diploma (1991) from the Department of Computer Engineering and Informatics (University of Patras, Greece) and a Ph.D. in Computation (1995) from UMIST (UK).
While with Hellenic Open University (HOU), he has been involved in the design and implementation of study programs and of infrastructures and services for e-learning. He has taught several Informatics subjects at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and has supervised nearly 100 dissertations and theses, at the HOU, at the Open University of Cyprus and at the University of Patras. He has, also, served as Vice-Dean for the School of Science and Technology and sits on the HOU Committee for Quality Assurance.
He has worked as a project evaluator for the European Commission, for the Corallia Clusters Initiative, for the Greek Scholarships Foundation and for the University of Porto, and as a proposal evaluator for the European Commission, for the (Hellenic) General Secretariat for Research and Technology, and for several other national and European organisations.
He was a member of the Organising Committee of the 18th European Conference on Artificial Intelligence (2008) and of the 24th IEEE International Conference on Tools with Artificial Intelligence (2012). He has served as Co-Chair of the 8th Panhellenic Conference, as Chairperson of the Hellenic Society for Artificial Intelligence, where he also now serves as Secretary General.
