To achieve the objective of the PSP, postgraduate students must successfully attend and understand its four thematic units:
SMA50 – Dynamic Analysis of Structures
SMA51 – Geotechnical Seismic Engineering and Seismic Design of Geotechnical Structures
SMA62 – Seismic Design and Retrofit of Buildings
SMA63 – Special Topics in Analysis and Design of Structures in Earthquakes
Students who successfully complete all four T.U. will be able to:
Curriculum Academic Credits (ECTS): 120
The minimum duration of studies is two (2) academic terms.
UNESCO ISCED-2011 Classification
– according to field of education: 58 Architecture and building
– according to education level: 7
UNESCO ISCED-2013 Classification
– according to field of education: 0732 Building and civil engineering
The Post-graduate programme accepts graduates or higher institution diplomas of related disciplines. The programme is offered in Greek.
The knowledge of a foreign language and good computer-Internet skills would be useful for the successful participation in the programme.
Note:
Holders of a degree or diploma of higher education means graduates of Greek Universities or Polytechnics or Higher School of Fine Arts or Higher School of Pedagogical and Technological Education or Higher Technological Educational Institutions (ATEI) or those who hold academically equivalent first cycle degrees from recognized foreign educational institutions with the degrees awarded by the Greek Higher Educational Institutions, in accordance with the provisions of article 304 of Law No. 4957/2022 (Government Gazette 141/21.07.2022, vol.)
Clarification regarding foreign academic institutions
When evaluating an application to a Postgraduate Study Programme, the University will examine whether the candidate’s institution of study is included, or is eligible to be included, in the National Registry of Recognized Foreign Higher Education Institutions, and whether the candidate’s degree is included, or is eligible to be included, in the National Registry of Degree Types Awarded by Recognized Foreign Institutions. If the degree is listed under Article 307 of Law 4957/2022, the Hellenic Open University is required to request a “Certificate of Place of Study”, which must be issued and sent directly by the foreign university. If the certificate confirms that the place of study, or any part of the studies, took place within Greek territory, the degree cannot be recognized—unless the portion of studies completed in Greece was carried out at a public Higher Education Institution or at a recognized foreign educational institution, as defined in point (b) of Article 299 of Law 4957/2022.

Fast-Track Foundation Course
The PSP offers a fast-track foundation course. This course is of a supportive nature, and attendance is optional. (*).The program is meant for students who do not possess a Diploma in Civil Engineering, and possess diplomas in other fields of Engineering. Under no circumstances can the course replace any of the other four course modules of the PSP. The course has a duration of three (3) four-hour (4) meetings. The meetings will discuss elements of static structural analysis, elements of numerical structural analysis, elements of material strength, elements of soil mechanics and elements of design and reinforced concrete and steel members. Students will be provided with a syllabus comprised of brief notes (with numerical examples) roughly 80-100 pages in length, and not with a book.
(*) The financial contribution for admitted students until the academic year 2023-2024 is equal to 25% of the cost of a single course module. For students commencing from the academic year 2024-2025 is €300.
Module Selection Instructions
Students in the first (1st) academic term may select all three of the following T.U.: SMA50, SMA51, and SMA62. Students who do not possess the necessary time to select all three must first select either SMA50, or SMA50 and SMA51.
Students who wish to complete the PSP in two academic terms must successfully pass the three 1st-term T.U. in their first academic term, and prepare their postgraduate diploma thesis concurrently with attendance and completion of the final T.U., SMA63.
When selecting T.U.s, students must first select all the available T.U.s that belong to the previous term and then select T.U.s belonging to the next term.
Students may only present their Postgraduate Diploma Thesis after successfully completing all the T.U. of the PSP.
To obtain the postgraduate specialization diploma, students must successfully attend all four Thematic Units, and successfully prepare and present their Postgraduate Diploma Thesis.
