The MSc “Graphic Arts – Multimedia” aims to provide specialized knowledge in the broader scientific and modern cognitive subject of Graphic Arts Technology and Multimedia. The curriculum harmoniously combines knowledge: a) in the field of arts and visual creation, communication design and creative design for print and electronic media with the help of visual communication, b) in the broader scientific and technological field of graphic arts, publishing, printing, typography and packaging, and with the study of the fields of design of web applications, interactive design systems and interface design.In particular, the Programme of Studies aims to offer students the opportunity to cultivate their creativity and acquire knowledge and skills in the creative design of printed and electronic media, in the administrative, managerial, technological and production processes of graphic arts, publishing, printing, design and production of packaging, as well as in the design and development of multimedia applications and web applications with emphasis on the study of interactive systems and applications.

The MSc offers comprehensive and up-to-date scientific knowledge in the above fields, so that its graduates are able to support similar applications that often arise in their professional or artistic activity.

By attending the Master of Graphic Arts – Multimedia, the student will be able to:

  • possess creative skills related to the conception of an idea and the composition of a visual arts project
  • understand visual language and its role in communication and be able to semantically analyse an image
  • be familiar with design theories and processes, communication theories, semiotics, and art history.
  • judges and evaluates a design proposal in terms of its overall aesthetic and communicative effect.
  • assesses the usability of a digital application
  • design for visual communication, for print and digital media
  • understands the role of the medium, and the requirements of each medium for the design.
  • organise and plan a print production, knowing the pre-press and editing processes and the different printing methods
  • have skills in the design and production of multimedia applications

Graduates of the Master’s programme, depending on their experience and specialisation, can work in the following fields:

A) Creative design, graphic design and communication design

Creative design and visual communication design for print and digital media. Art direction for digital or print media (art direction). Graphic design and typography. Graphic interface design, user experience design.

B) Engineering Level (Engineering) Graphic Arts Technology

Highly skilled management positions in prepress and printing, Design and production print editing, Print production administration and management systems, Cross-media publishing technologies, Premedia technologies, Specialised costing Quality control, Quality control applications for ISO-12647 certified printing, Production organisation and planning, Management, marketing, Sales (to machine and equipment dealerships), Graphic arts network management, Colour management, CIELAB Cielch colour space management, Measurement, certification, and determination of colour difference – DE, Ink prescription for packaging and special colour mixing prints, Digital file management in prepress, Packaging design, Safety Technician positions, Specialised graphic arts software applications, Holistic packaging design, Specialised packaging prepress.

C) Multimedia Technologies and Design Levels

Design and development of web, multimedia, and interactive applications, Interaction design. Human Computer Interaction (HCI) design. Development of specific types of applications.

ECTS Credits of the Programme: 120

Minimum duration: The minimum duration of study is two (2) academic years

Classification according to the Unesco ISCED-2011 code:

– based on the field of education: 21 Arts

– based on the level of study: 7

Classification according to the Unesco ISCED-2013 code:

– based on the field of education: 0219 – History of the Art, Communication, Design, Printing, Multimedia not elsewhere classified

Language of Teaching:The language of instruction of the MSc is Greek.

The Post-graduate programme accepts graduates or higher institution diplomas of related disciplines. The programme is offered in Greek. 

The knowledge of a foreign language and good computer-Internet skills would be useful for the successful participation in the programme.

Note:

Degree holders or holders of higher education diploma are all the degree holders of Greek Universities and Technological Educational Institutes’ or departments with equivalent foreign degree recognised by the Hellenic NARIC (Hellenic National Academic Recognition and Information Center – DOATAP/former DIKATSA) respectively or holders of the first cycle of study of the above-mentioned departments of accredited foreign institutions*.

By the term Universities we mean University Schools, Technical Universities and the Athens School of Fine Arts.

*Note: According to paragraph 7, article 34 of Law 4485/2017 “Diploma of Postgraduate Studies is not awarded to a student whose first cycle degree from a foreign institution has not been recognized by the Hellenic National Academic Recognition and Information Center (DIKATSA/DOATAP), according to Law 3328/2005 (A’80)”.

The MSc “Graphic Arts – Multimedia” is structured in two (2) academic years, which include four (4) Thematic Units (Th.U.) and the preparation of a Diploma Thesis (D.E.). The minimum duration for the completion of the programme is two (2) years. The total number of credits (ECTS) required for the award of the Master’s degree is 120 ECTS.

Instructions for the declaration of Th.U.

In the first year of study, if you register a subject you can register either GTP50 or GTP51.

In the second year of study, if you choose a subject, you can declare either GTP60 or GTP61.

The presentation of the Master’s Thesis will take place after the successful completion of all the topics of the Programme of Studies.

In the process of declaring a Thesis, the previous year’s Thesis should be exhausted first and then the next year’s Thesis should be declared. For example, if a postgraduate student has successfully completed 1 Thesis from the first year and wants to choose 1 Thesis for the following year, he/she must necessarily declare the second Thesis of the first year and one from the following year and so on.

In order to complete the programme in two academic years, you must successfully complete in the first year of study two Thesis and in the second year the last two Theses in parallel with the Master’s thesis.

It is recommended that you compensate your time so that you do not choose more THEs than you can meet.
