The aim of the Postgraduate Programme, which is addressed in principle to teachers of both levels (primary and secondary) and to AEI and TEI graduates who are or will be employed in education, is:
Presentation of the Postgraduate Programme
The Postgraduate Programme “Educational Sciences” is designed for teachers, educators, personnel in both formal and non-formal education, scientists, and researchers. It aims to provide specialized knowledge in the Educational Sciences. This includes a comprehensive understanding of the latest trends in Educational Sciences and fosters the development of advanced research capabilities, skills, and scientific reasoning. The programme aims to achieve the following:
(i) To enhance the quality of professional development of teachers, educators and personnel in formal and non-formal education sectors. This is to enable them to contribute to the ongoing quality improvement of the educator’s role and the efficacy of educational leaders. It focuses on promoting quality and equity in education, while effectively addressing contemporary social needs and challenges.
(ii) To equip educators, educational leaders, scientists and researchers with essential knowledge and skills in educational research. This is pivotal for their progression into subsequent postgraduate cycles (such as doctoral studies), to advance the field of educational sciences in our country, and/or to contribute to the staffing of educational research centres and academic departments.

Language of instruction:The language of instruction of the programme is Greek.
The Post-graduate programme accepts graduates of higher institution diplomas. The programme is offered in Greek.
The knowledge of a foreign language and good computer-Internet skills would be useful for the successful participation in the programme.
Note:
Holders of a degree or diploma of higher education means graduates of Greek Universities or Polytechnics or Higher School of Fine Arts or Higher School of Pedagogical and Technological Education or Higher Technological Educational Institutions (ATEI) or those who hold academically equivalent first cycle degrees from recognized foreign educational institutions with the degrees awarded by the Greek Higher Educational Institutions, in accordance with the provisions of article 304 of Law No. 4957/2022 (Government Gazette 141/21.07.2022, vol.)
Clarification regarding foreign academic institutions
When evaluating an application to a Postgraduate Study Programme, the University will examine whether the candidate’s institution of study is included, or is eligible to be included, in the National Registry of Recognized Foreign Higher Education Institutions, and whether the candidate’s degree is included, or is eligible to be included, in the National Registry of Degree Types Awarded by Recognized Foreign Institutions. If the degree is listed under Article 307 of Law 4957/2022, the Hellenic Open University is required to request a “Certificate of Place of Study”, which must be issued and sent directly by the foreign university. If the certificate confirms that the place of study, or any part of the studies, took place within Greek territory, the degree cannot be recognized—unless the portion of studies completed in Greece was carried out at a public Higher Education Institution or at a recognized foreign educational institution, as defined in point (b) of Article 299 of Law 4957/2022.

Instructions for Declaration of units
In the 1st year of studies, students can choose from one (1) to two (2) units as follows: If they choose one (1) unit they must choose EKP51.
In the 2nd year of study, students must successfully complete either three (3) units or two (2) units and the Master’s Dissertation according to the following 4 structures:

The preparation of the Master’s Dissertation takes place either after the successful completion of the units or in parallel with their attendance.
The successful completion of four (4) units and a Master’s Dissertation or the successful completion of five (5) units, according to the Guidelines for the Diploma of the Postgraduate Degree Programme, is required for the completion of the Postgraduate Degree Programme.
In order for students to complete the programme in two academic years, they must successfully complete two units in the first year of study and either two units and the thesis or three units in the second year.
When declaring units, the previous year’s units must be exhausted first and then the next year’s unit declaration may begin.

The Financial Contribution for Students to the programme is as follows: The cost of each Module is €650 and the cost of the Master Thesis is €650.
The total Financial Contribution for the Programme is: €3,250.
