Guidelines on Module selection

The modules of the first three academic years are compulsory.

  • In order to enroll in the module FYE24, students must have successfully completed the module FYE14.
  • In order to enroll in the module FYE22, students must have successfully completed the module FYE12.
  • In order to enroll in the module FYE20, students must have successfully completed the module FYE10.
  • In order to enroll in the module FYE34, students must have successfully completed the module FYE24.
  • In order to enroll in the module FYE40, students must have successfully completed the module FYE34.
  • In order to enroll in the module FYE43, students must have successfully completed the module FYE31.

In order to practice in the laboratory circles, students must meet the following requirements:

Physics Laboratory Course

Laboratory cycle I: students must be enrolled and should be attending the module FYE24, Physics I, during the current academic year, or if students have successfully completed their studies or have earned the right to take exams in the specific module in the previous academic year.

Laboratory cycle II: (1) students must be enrolled and should be attending the module FYE40, Quantum Physics, during the current academic year, or if students have successfully completed their studies or have earned the right to take exams in the specific module in the previous academic year and (2) have successfully completed the Physics Laboratory Course I in the previous academic year, or have enrolled and attended the Physics Laboratory Course I in the current academic year. In the latter case, their face to face exercise in the Physics Laboratory Course II requires a previous successful face to face exercise in the Physics Laboratory Course I.

Chemistry Laboratory Course

Laboratory cycle I: students must be enrolled and should be attending the module FYE22, Physical Chemistry, during the current academic year, or if students have successfully completed their studies or have earned the right to take exams in the specific module in the previous academic year.

Laboratory cycle II: (1) students must be enrolled and should be attending the module FYE30, Organic Chemistry, during the current academic year, or if students have successfully completed their studies or have earned the right to take exams in the specific module in the previous academic year and (2) have successfully completed the Chemistry Laboratory Course I in the previous academic year, or have enrolled and attended the Chemistry Laboratory Course I in the current academic year. In the latter case, their face to face exercise in the Chemistry Laboratory Course II requires a previous successful face to face exercise in the Chemistry Laboratory Course I.

Biology Laboratory Course

Laboratory cycle I: students must be enrolled and should be attending the module FYE31, Cell structure and function, during the current academic year, or if students have successfully completed their studies or have earned the right to take exams in the specific module in the previous academic year.

Laboratory cycle II: (1) students must be enrolled and should be attending the module FYE43, Genetics, during the current academic year, or if students have successfully completed their studies or have earned the right to take exams in the specific module in the previous academic year and (2) have successfully completed the Biology Laboratory Course I in the previous academic year, or have enrolled and attended the Biology Laboratory Course I in the current academic year. In the latter case, their face to face exercise in the Biology Laboratory Course II requires a previous successful face to face exercise in the Biology Laboratory Course I.

It is strongly recommended that students should attend the module FYE30 before or in parallel with the module FYE31, otherwise they will face difficulty in the Biochemistry module (FYE31/2).

Of the fourth year modules, students must attend compulsorily the modules FYE43 and FYE40 and choose one more of the fourth year modules.

From the academic year 2019-2020, it is allowed for students of the programme studies FYE who have only two (2) modules remaining, even if one (1) is a prerequisite for the other, to declare them simultaneously.

Also, for those students who have only three (3) modules remaining to complete their studies, they may declare all three (3) modules simultaneously, even if one module is a prerequisite for another.

During the module selection, all modules from previous academic years must be selected and consequently the selection of the modules of the next academic year can begin.

After graduation, students may continue their studies in the Postgraduate Programmes of the School of Science and Technology.

Information regarding the written exams of Program Studies “Studies in Natural Sciences”:

Following the decision to separate the taught and examined syllabus of the Course Modules of the Program Studies “Studies in Natural Sciences” into two parts: a’ and b’, students are given the opportunity to optionally participate in an intermediate exam, after completing the first (a’) part of the syllabus. The second (b’) part of the syllabus will be examined after its completion, as a continuation of the examination period, while the repeat examination will be offered for both parts, independently, and will be conducted in accordance with the applicable regulations.

The intermediate exam is offered as optional and in case of failure, students who do not secure a passable grade in the intermediate exam retain the right to participate in the final and repeat examinations at the end of the academic year.

The grade of the examination of the first (a’) part will be counted as a percentage of:

  • 40% of the total grade of the module FYE22,
  • 30% of the total grade of the module FYE34 from the academic year 2019-20. The registered students to the module FYE34 during the academic year 2018-2019 that will fail, will be re-examined the next academic year (2019-2020) according to the apportionment of the A’ part applicable in the year 2018-2019, i.e. 35% of the total grade,
  • 35% of the total grade in the remaining Course Modules in which intermediate examination is conducted.

with a corresponding safeguard of the grade for the following academic year as well. This is applicable as long as the student has obtained the necessary grade in all written assignments, according to the requirements of each Course Module or Laboratory Module, and with regard to the Study Regulations.

In case the students do not succeed in the examination of the first (a’) part (minimum score of 5), their studies at the Course Module or Laboratory Module continue normally. Those who fail this exam, will be able to participate in the final and repeat examinations of the first (a’) part, which are held at the end of the academic year.

Those students who do not attend the intermediate exam of the first (a’) part, will participate normally in the final exam of the first (a’) part which is held in the June-July period.

The examination for the second (b’) part of the syllabus is conducted in the May-July period after the completion of the second part of the syllabus.

The grade of the second (b’) part examination will be counted as a percentage of:

  • 30% of the total grade of the module FYE22,
  • 40% of the total grade of the module FYE34 from the academic year 2019-20. The registered students to the module FYE34 during the academic year 2018-2019 that will fail, will be re-examined the next academic year (2019-2020) according to the apportionment of the (b’) part applicable in the year 2018-2019, i.e.

Those who fail either the first (a’) or second (b’) part of the final exams participate in the corresponding repeat exam.

For the successful completion of the course module it is required to successfully complete each part of the exam and a score greater than or equal to five (5).

The intermediate examination is applicable for the following course modules: FYE10, FYE12, FYE14, FYE20, FYE22, FYE24, FYE30, FYE31, FYE34, FYE40, FYE41, FYE42 and FYE43.

Also, the intermediate examination is also applied to module PLI21 (for students who have been admitted to the study program until the academic year 2017-2018) in accordance with the provisions in force in the said Course Module and in the Program Studies “Computer Science”.
